To start don't make the same mistake I did by being a waste of life and not driving yourself to the next level. You need to motivate yourself to want more. Remember, every day more and more people enter the IT field. This means that the every day IT employee will become so common place that it wont matter if your company fires you! The goal to obtaining certifications is not just so you can say you have them but instead to make yourself stand out above the vast pool of "clone" employees. Don't let yourself get comfortable... you need to stay on your toes in this industry.
I came to the aforementioned realization once I was bored in my position. It hit me like a pile of bricks once one of my buddies got fired. I went right out and decided I was going to motivate myself to get a few certifications (starting at the bottom and working up).
I started out by going to Barnes and Noble to buy and A+ certification book. After reading the book from cover to cover I went over the major topics and took the test. I FAILED!! I was so disappointed so I started looking into alternatives. The best one I found was Prep Logic Simulation Exams. After using the simulation exam I passed the A+ with flying colors. I then moved onto the network+ and security+ certifications. Of course, I went right to prep logic and downloaded their audio books and study materials. Once I felt I knew everything I downloaded the simulation exams and confirmed I knew enough to pass. Needless to say, I passed both exams on the first shot!! Most recently I used the same techniques for the EC Council CEH certification and Cisco's CCNA certification. I passed BOTH! I cant stress enough how well Prep Logic's materials have helped me. My next conquest is the Cisco CCNP Certification. I have downloaded the material and started studying! Almost test time but not yet. Very soon! |
