Apple's Transparent Yet Growing Market Share

By Stephen Sikes

I have not owned a PC or used Windows personally for over 2 years now. I own 2 Macs and bought my daughter an Apple laptop about a year ago. It was amazing to all of us how those Apple products have impacted us and the way we look at other computer products.

One of the big changes was our computers did not slow down every 8 weeks and have to have the operating systems reinstalled, yes no viruses. The Apple could do anything a PC could yet better when it came to Video, Photography, Websites and Graphics. The only items of Microsoft I needed was the MAC version of Office. I will admit that I have not seen a suite yet that can beat Microsoft Office. But as far as the Apple Operating system it was hands down the best thing since sliced bread as Forest Gump would say.

It appears to me just being a normal guy in an above average neighborhood that there is a revolution going right underneath our noses. My younger brother called me and told me he had completely replaced his 5 PC’s with MAC’s on a wireless connection. He said there was a bit of a transition for him in getting used to the feel and new software, but now that he has been using the Apple’s he loves it and said he would never go back. His wife easily sinks up their electronic devices and admitted to me they will be getting an Apple iphone for their business needs.

My next door neighbor who is a computer instructor at a new high school locally just bought a MacPro and was going on and on about the features of this powerful machine. It amazes me the shear love that people have for Apple products once they get them.

When I hear my son’s friends talking they laugh and make fun of the Old PC’s and Windows as if they have already been made obsolete. How are they seeing so far into the future as if Apple was the dominant player when in reality there are many more PC Windows based machines out there. The younger generation knows the trends better than the old who are still stuck using Windows with it’s Viruses and flaws and old PC technology. This generation are the ones that are the up and comers who will be making the procurement decisions in the future. Guess what those decision will be?

When we went up to St. Louis over the Christmas break I brought my iPod Nano that my son had bought me for Christmas. What a small simple yet fantastic machine. I figured it out in a matter of minutes and was downloading music to it with the iTunes cards he had gotten me. It became attached to me for the rest of the vacation. I had also downloaded a couple of the free Podcasts that I found and was listening to. The Podcasts is another untapped market. Learn how to do anything and everything with PodCasts and most are free.

On our Apple’s we watch YouTube Videos and work on Websites and enjoy seeing the next article skyrocket to the top of Digg.com another cool website my son introduced to me to where you can see the best of the best Videos and articles being ranked by the users themselves who upload them and all the viewers, simply amazing stuff. It is known as viral marketing and is the way of the future as Howard Hughes would have put it.

Yes, the innovation of Apple Computer makes me proud to live in a country where the best and finest minds deliver new products one after the other in a fast paced sequence that would have been unheard of a few years ago. It makes you get excited about technology and what lies ahead.

I hope that many of the companies out there who are just copying off other companies will realize that you need to follow Apple not according to their products, but to your own drum beat of creativeness and surprise the world with something new, not just transformed or called something different. This is when your companies will truly thrive and be noticed. I challenge every company out there to look at Apple as the example of a truly pure model of what a company can become with innovation, drive and the customer at the center of everything you do.

I hope you enjoyed this article.
