E-Government and the Future of the E-MunicipalityBy Lance Winslow |
|
Imagine in the near future when you can do everything online with your local city government. Currently you can do quite a bit online and there is also lots of information available on the City’s website. This will only increase as more E-Government are seen at the local level. The Future of the E-Municipality is nearly upon us.
What does this mean to you and I? Well more efficiency means less cost and that translates to Lower taxes hopefully. With more things being done online there will also be better customer service and better city services. Think of the future e-municipality as a one stop shop, where all departments linked together and you only have to fill out forms once. All the data is automatically transferred when you feel out the next form.
Think of the efficiencies for integrated command and control Information Technology systems for Planning, Services, Administration and the City Council. Consider the efficiency of tiered reporting to County, State and Federal Governments too. If you run a business then it will sure be much easier to do business with a system like this.
Of course all this is predicated on Trust by citizens, but if the taxes are lowered and the government is more efficient then such cost savings and ROI Return on Investment will in fact make citizens or e-citizens much more trusting of their government that is not wasting their tax dollars.
E-municipalities will also have RFID Equipment Management for their supply chain, police, fire (Mapping) with GPS. Some day all the first responders will be automated robots and they will have maximum shortened response times based on predictable need such as Crime clustering charts, sensors and the historical value of safety roads and accident reports. All this will be hooked into First Responder computers along with Reverse 911 capabilities.
Other services will have similar robust computerized systems for schools, trash, sewer, water, power and even the dog catcher and code enforcement too. But that is not all you have to look forward too, there will be Online voting, as well as Service Club and Community Interface. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you. |
