I put a lot of research into purchasing my first digital mini DV because I wanted to have the best digital camcorder. At that time, I thought that it would be cool to become an amateur filmmaker. I had some success with the few movies I made. My movies had been shown at local film festivals and had received fairly positive reviews.
Unfortunately, I did not realize that this didn't mean very much. This is because I was unaware that the world is filled with amateur film guys with local followings. In my mind, I can only compete with the main Hollywood studios if I have the best digital camcorders. As a result, I invested a fortune in the most amazing digital camcorder available.
That camcorder cost more than 500 dollars, which was a fortune in 1996. Since I didn't have that kind of cash, buying the best digital camcorder meant that I could not afford a new car. However, I didn't care because film was everything to me. I didn’t even mind that I would be strapped for rent that month if I purchased that camcorder.
The equipment I purchased wasn't one of those digital optical zoom pieces of junk. My camcorder worked like a real video camera. I enjoyed the full set of adjustable lenses, the highest resolution available at the time, and the ability to do in camera editing with that device. All these features made it the best digital camcorder that was on the marketing those years.
Unfortunately, thieves also recognize value of the best digital camcorders so they are hot items. If you are willing to not ask any questions, then you can probably find a digital camcorder for half its current price. You don’t have to buy it from some guy's jacket on the street in these day and age. A lot of pawnshops now have stolen digital camcorders available. I’m sure that you now have an idea about where this is going.
Tragedy struck as I was shooting what I thought would be the best movie with the best digital camcorder. I was approached by a person who pretended to recognize me. He started asking me about my films. I was chatting with him when his partner walked up behind me and suddenly grabbed the camcorder out of my hand. They were both halfway down the block by the time I realized what was happening. That is the sad story of how I lost the best digital camcorder I've ever owned. |
