Lately we have been witnesses of one of the major technological revolutions regarding the way we record our memories and the fruits of our imagination. With this I mean how we have managed to migrate from the old long-plays, both music and VHS cassettes that were so prevalent for many years, to the now famous CD and DVD formats that can store a huge amount of data in just a thin, reflective plate that keeps information as digital bites on its surface.
But maybe our migration to the new formats has been too fast, everything has happened so rapidly that most of us still have lots of our favorite movies and memories in the formerly prevalent VHS-format. But now even VCR’s are getting hard to find in stores. So there is a growing need to copy the old VHS format to the new CD or DVD format. It is a dream many people has had lately, and a number of them has often thought it was too hard to do . But now copying VHS to DVD,CD has become possible, with the right software it’s possible to have your favorite VHS movies turned into DVD or CD format.
Also I should mention there is a difference between CD and DVD formats that makes the electronic devices that read each of the storage formats a bit different. DVD’s are designed to store much more information than CD’s do. This means the digitalization of the information stored on the DVD is “finer” with the consequence that the laser frequency used in each of the formats differs, with DVD’s needing a higher frequency than CD’s in order for the reading and reproducing device to be able to perform its function.
As you surely know DVD’s are used mostly for movies and CD’s for music. The obvious reason is the size of a movie file, that contains lots of images added to the soundtrack, compared with just the music stored in a CD. It’s cheaper and easier to find a CD reader than a DVD reader so there are times you would wish to have your favorite movie on a CD. Thank to technology, with the right software you can do that and have your favorite DVD movies burned on CD. |
