Decrease Windows XP Boot Up Time (Dramatically)

By Tom Maddocks

Bootvis made by microsoft is a program which analyses and alters the order in which your computer boots up. It moves certain files around to help get the best boot up time from your pc! I hve tried this program and it has shaved as much as 8 seconds off my boot time!

Firstly download a copy of Bootvist

1. Once installed, start up Bootvis and make sure you close all running applications.

2. We then need Bootvis to analyze the boot sequence in order for it to optimize the boot. To do this select

File > New > Next Boot + Drivers Trace

(you can also optimize standby and hibernate)

3. Once the "Trace Repetitions" block is shown set the number of repetitions to 1, initial number starting at to 1 and restart automatically after tracing. Then click OK

4. a 10 seconds countdown in a window will appear, once zero is reached Windows will reboot

5. Once the computer is rebooted login to your username and bootvis will appear after a few seconds. It will display a number of graphs showing the timings for each step performed.

6. Now select Trace > Optimize System.

7. A new windows will popup and a series of Ticks will move down the list of 3 items. This could take several minutes. After the final task is complete, Bootvis will reboot the system for a final time.

Bootvis has now finished optimizing the system.

After installing a new driver on your system, it may be helpful to run Bootvis again.
