Software for Small Service Businesses and Scheduling

By Lance Winslow

There are so many off the shelf scheduling software programs out there and many are quite good but if you have been in business very long at all you know that as good as they are they were not specially made for your business or they way you do your business. Even if you get a hold of some industry software you will often notice that it just is not exactly what you had hoped for.

Often such industry software will have mandatory fields to fill out they have nothing to do with your company’s way of doing business or they may even run in DOS. Have you ever gone to a company; lets say a body shop for instance and they are using a DOS program and you think to yourself they are way behind the times? Well actually the whole automotive body shop industry uses this because it works and often insurance companies use them too and therefore everyone uses the same old; old junk.

If you are in a small service business people will call in for service and if they are previous customers they have a customer number and if they order services now then they only need a customer order number and of course any additional changes to their normal service before you deliver their pizza. But a one-size-fits-all set of software can be problematic and it is advised to find someone who can modify the off the shelf stuff to fit your exact needs. Consider all this in 2006.
