O.K. Let me start off by saying that the following statements are only my opinions so I don't create a war of the minds. I have been fixing, cleaning, and repairing computers for several years now and one thing remains true. Absolutely no software completely protects your computer from spyware, malware, and viruses. That being said, I will now tell you the free software I use to help keep my computers and the computers I work on clean.
AntiVirus. What Is The Best Free Antivirus?
My favorite and most trusted Antivirus FREE or NOT is AVG Antivirus by GRISoft. The FREE version is for home use only and has limited features but there are plenty for a home use computer. It has served me well on my own computer as well as every computer I have repaired or cleaned. I would suggest taking a look at http://Free.Grisoft.com
AntiSpyware. What are The Best Free Spyware Removal Tool?
Here is where I suggest trying a few different ones. I personally love the Microsoft Offering in this category. It is currently free and hopefully will remain that way. It all started when they bought out company named " GIANT Company Software ". They made a great antispyware application that I was already using. Then I installed the Microsoft Antispyware Beta version of this antispyware and I liked it as well. Now they are calling their solution "Windows Defender" which is in the Beta 2 phase and I still think the program is the best around for free. Some other honorable mentions are AdAware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and ewido anti-malware which was just recently bought out by GRIsoft which makes the AntiVirus listed above. Firewall. What is the Best FREE Firewall?
My favorite firewall is definitely ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com. ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use. To find the free version click on the ZoneAlarm Tab. If you are looking for added protection consider their "Pro" Offering. I have used this product for many years now and it works perfectly and gives you all the control you need. |
